A Taste of Winter

We are just one month into autumn and we have been served a taste of things to come by the weather gods this last weekend.

This was the stunning sunrise on Friday morning.  The cloud thickened during the day, and, as predicted, it rained on Friday night.  Where some places out west, such as Chookyblue, received several inches of very welcome rain, we received just over one inch.  It was such nice, steady, soaking rain.

What made it especially good, was that we have just had our lawn sprayed for nasty grubs that have been eating the roots of the grass and it needed to be watered in.

Surprisingly, we had a few mushrooms appear on the footpath, but they were not going to be eaten due to the said spraying.

On Saturday we only had a few showers, but the wind picked up and brought with it an antarctic blast.

This was the temperature in the early afternoon on Saturday. - Yes that says "Feels like 1.1 degrees C!"  A bit of a rude shock.

We really welcomed the rain, but the timing was a little unfortunate, as Bathurst was hosting two rather large events on Saturday - the final day of harness racing for the week long Gold Crown Carnival as well as the annual NRL game held in Bathurst with the Penrith Panthers playing the Melbourne Storm.  We were both planning on going along to watch the footy, but as the weather continued to get colder, still with a wicked wind and showers, we stayed home in the warm and listened to the game on the wireless.

Now that is much more pleasant that freezing your bits off down at the footy ground.  I think these two may be found here quite a bit during the next few months.

Mind you, silly us were up early and out at Oberon before 8 o'clock on Sunday morning, rugged up against the freezing cold, as the annual swap meet was on.  (Apparently, there was a little bit of snow out there on Saturday night.) We had already decided not to have a stall, but you have to go along to support them.

After our look around we were in definite need of something warm, so went and found a nice warm cafe and comforting mug of coffee.

The day was cold, but occasionally the sun came out and things improved a bit.  The big job for the day was to hang some hooks in the ceiling above the bath and bring our big hanging plants in from the back verandah so that they won't get frosted.

This morning was also cold - so close to a frost, but it developed into a perfect autumnal day - temperature in the low 20s, hardly a cloud in the sky and the slightest breeze.

Lunch in the park was definitely on the agenda.  Kings Parade, in the middle of town, was looking a picture.

The weather is now forecast to be warmer this week, which is nice, as we really aren't ready for frosts and winter temperatures just yet.

Daylight saving finishes on Sunday, so that will be a further reminder that winter is not that far away in this part of the world.

Our weather is a bit up and down at the moment too. We had a good downpour on Sunday night, then Monday the temps rose, and rose, what a beautiful day. It's cooler today for my day off sadly. It was great to read on Chookys blog that they finally had rain. I hope they get more. Mick and Joey look very comfortable there, it must have been a cool one to see the fire lit, Belle was asking for the AC last night. LOL

I think our daylight saving finishes this weekend too. That will make a difference to the evenings.
