Off to See the Wizard - Mary Pool to Willare Bridge Roadhouse

I was up before the sun this morning to take a couple of photos.  Our camp site looked rather lovely in the early morning light.
There were lots of birds around and the river was looking so nice and still. I’m glad I was up so early, as the wind picked up shortly afterwards and was quite blustery.
There was a bower bird bower quite close.  This one had more natural items collected, rather than plastic.  I didn’t see the bird in the bower, but did see one flying around.  A neighbouring camper was watching last night and saw the maLe putting on a display for a female.  We are surprised at how many bower birds we have see in the north west.
As usual, the landscape changes in the most unexpected way.  You will have a flat plain and then rocky outcrops start to appear.
Then another flat plain.
We crossed the Fitzroy River at Fitzroy Crossing.  We were surprised at how much water was in the river.  However, when you looked at the other side of the bridge it was nearly all sand.  Weird.

We just bought our fuel and kept on our way, as there was no need to stop.
At one point there were loads of small pointy termite mounds.  A change from the blobs, which you can see from the photo are still ever present.
We had noticed a sign advising of rest areas ahead and one had been called “Boab Tree”.  Of course we had to call in when we saw it. It was humongous.
We had a wander around it.  What a crazy old tree.

Our destination today was Willare Bridge Roadhouse.  We have a nice  powered site under a tree and had a refreshing dip in the pool.

To finish the day we enjoyed a buffet dinner of build your own burgers at the roadhouse, chatting to fellow travellers.  A nice way to end the day.

The highlight of the day was the huge boab tree.

Another wonderful outing. I've only ever seen bower birds on nature documentaries so was fascinated in the photo you showed. Amazing bird behaviours. I also was interested in the termite mounds- another thing I've only seen on tv. And my goodness the size of that tree!! I was wondering if you follow Itchy Boots on You tube. She is from the Netherlands and travels the world on her motorcycle. Also very interesting footage.

Those boab trees are amazing. Build your own burger sounds fun, then you get exactly what you like. It's always nice to chat to other travellers too, you often find out about places to go and things to see which were not on your radar.
