Meet Rosie

As I said in my post about farewelling Snubby, times change, and Mick has a new project.  Mick always needs to have something on the go.

Our over the road neighbour has invited us to join a small group travelling to Cape York next year and Mick does not want to take our good ute, rather he wants to do it in a rustic fashion.

His choice of vehicle was governed by his desire for it to be small enough to fit in our shed.
Meet “Rosie”, a 1990 Suzuki Sierra JX soft top.  We found her on Facebook Marketplace only about an hour away from home.  She is in quite good condition, but still needs a bit of tidying up, which suits Mick.  As I said, he likes to have some sort of project on the go.

Rosie has all the mod cons……..a cigarette lighter, ash tray and radio cassette player (surprisingly, we still have our cassettes from way back when). She has manual air con (wind the window down by hand). She does not have a cup holder, Bluetooth or central locking and you have to wind the window down to adjust the side mirrors.  Such first world problems.
She certainly meets his criteria of being small.  She fitted in Mick’s 8 x 6 foot trailer…….just.  She fits in the shed, and their is also room for her in the yard when needed.
Since he brought her home Mick has already built a rack for the roof.  Not straight forward, due to the soft top, but he figured it out.
To test its strength he climbed up and knelt on it.  It passed.
A large awning has now been added as well.  This will be very handy when camping.  (The solar panel is just sitting there, not attached.)

The next item on the agenda is fixing all the lights and making sure the electricals are OK, before getting her registered.

I think this will be a fun project and vehicle.

By the way, I have decided that I will not be joining him on the trip to the Cape, as serious 4WD does not really appeal to me.

That will keep him busy for a while. As well as dreaming and planning that 4WD trip.

Mick looks really in his element with Rosie! Where is Cape York? North or South?!
