Showtime

We always like to attend the Bathurst Show.  I don’t think there has ever been a year we have missed unless we have been away at the time.

Our show is traditionally the weekend following the end of the Sydney Royal Easter Show.  Orange, the next town west, is the week after.  For  years we had glorious weather and every year Orange had terrible weather.  Eventually, the towns swapped dates.  For years Bathurst had glorious weather and Orange had rain…..so they swapped back.

Well, this year it was our turn to cop it.  We have just had our first taste of winter weather. Friday was cold, but not wet. We were supposed to take “Olga” the old girl down on Saturday to be part of the Historic Car Club display, but as the weather was wet and freezing cold we piked out.  This morning was still cold, but at least it wasn’t raining, so we rugged up and went along for a look see – no, we still didn’t take the bike.

We only stayed for a couple of hours and didn’t even look at a lot of the animals or go down sideshow alley.

Mick did get to have a sit in a highway patrol car at the Police stand and learn what all the doo hickeys in the cars do.  That was the closest he got to going on a ride.

I thought the little caravan for the chip stall was rather cute.

Doesn’t everyone look cold.  It was……..there has been snow on all the surrounding hills over the weekend.

Of course we had to have a look at the local competition in the pavilion.  The numbers of entries in the cooking section were high, but nearly everything else was very low.  Unfortunately, there were next to no flowers or veges.  Naturally, the harsh summer has contributed to that.  Let’s hope next year is better.

The needlework section seems to shrink every year.  I actually got my act together and put in a couple of entries.  One of my friends and her daughter also put in some entries.  Thank goodness for quilts or there would have been a great deal of black spaces.

My entries were my table runner, which came third.  (The very small one in the centre with the cream background – it was folded in half)

My friend’s daughter made the cute blue quilt next to it.

My friend came first with her lovely green bargello table runner.  It looks really effective.

My other entry was my “Some Kind of Wonderful” quilt, which came second.  I was rather surprised at that, as the only appliqué section was “Quilt - hand appliquéd and hand pieced”.  As mine was neither, it had to go in the section “Quilt – hand or machine pieced, commercially quilted”.

The winner of the section was beautifully done.

My photos aren’t the best, but I was trying to show a few of the other entries.

I’ll have to work on some more projects so that I have something to enter next year, to fill up those blank spaces.

I was much warmer this afternoon, spending it in the kitchen cooking.  Yesterday I made two batches of soup for the freezer and today I’ve made a lemon cake and casserole.  Cold weather always makes me think of my stomach.
