Our Latest Travels - Mundi Mundi Bash - The Extracurricular Activities

There is so much more to the Mundi Mundi Bash than the music.

Firstly, there is the location, on the Mundi Mundi Plains.  How good is this sunrise.

And the wind farm as the backdrop.  Things are big out that way.  The land that the turbines are on is all still part of the same station that the music festival is held on.

Let’s see what there is going on.

You could go on a camel ride.  Not for us this year with Mick’s back playing up.

The Crack Up Sisters are always entertaining.  This year there was actually only one of the sisters,”Struth”, there and she was busy for the whole event. She did her own show.

She hosted the Mundi’s Got Talent Show, and there was some good talent there too.

On Friday morning, she started the Mundi Undi Run.

Oh my goodness.  That was the funniest event.

This was the morning that was freezing cold.  Most wore their undies over some other clothes, but not all.

It was a run/walk/waddle/stumble for about a kilometre around the site.

These are mates of ours from home.

I had to get a photo of the crocheted undies ensembles.

No, we didn’t participate, but if we go again, we will definitely be donning some crazy undies……on the outside…..

On Saturday morning, Struth led everyone in doing the Nutbush Dance……….all 5,954 of us.  We broke the Guinness Book of Records for the number of people dancing the Nutbush.  Yes, we did take part in that.  I don’t know how, but neither of us have ever danced The Nutbush, but we learnt the steps and we did it.  It was great fun, even with Mick using his walking stick. Here we are wearing our stickers to tell us where we had to stand in the lineup.

I’ve borrowed this photo from the official website, showing us all.  We were about smack bang in the middle.  The best thing is that just two days prior to our record breaking dance was the 50th anniversary of   Tina Turner releasing the song, back in 1973. How old does that make you feel?!

Following that, there was another world record attempt to have the most people dressed as Mad Max characters.  They set the record last year, but failed to break it this year.  

I didn’t get any photos of the main entrants, but this character (or creature) was wandering around.

As Mad Max was filmed in the area, there was an Interceptor car on display.

We wondered why there was an old mining truck next to it.  Apparently, for next year, it will be transformed into the Doof Truck from the movies.  (I’ve only seen the first one, when it first came out, so don’t know about it, but it will be great to see, if they do.)

All these events are fund raisers for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.  They raised a total of $162,000 for them.  Not a bad effort.

There was also a doggy fashion show, which I didn’t get photos of, also MC’d by Struth and she hosted some silly games in the breaks between performances.  I must say she was about the hardest worker there.

The other extra performer was “DJ Grand Master Baitz”. He also provided entertainment between acts.  At one stage a little kid from the audience joined him.  “Slash Junior” was having great fun with his outfit and guitar. He could really work a crowd.

As you can see, Mundi Mundi is much more than just the music, there is a whole lot more to experience.

Sunday saw the end of it all and the majority headed out of the site.  We didn’t have to go far, having booked into a caravan park in Broken Hill, so no big rush to pack up.  It still took us just on an hour in the queue to leave the site.  Some took over three hours, depending on where their camp site was.

Once we reached the road the traffic flowed freely and we called into Silverton to grab some lunch at the bakery.  You have to take a photo of the iconic pub. 

We settled in at the caravan park and really appreciated a long, hot shower, rather than a quick rinse.  The weather was lovely and warm, so a nice lazy afternoon was called for.

That completed the first stage of our trip.  We were looking forward to doing some more exploring.

This is where we had travelled up to this point.

We received an email on Friday showing the site on the Saturday and then on the Tuesday afterwards.  The only thing left on site are the loo blocks.
