We were back on the road the next day. We didn’t have to go very far for our first stop. It was just on the outskirts of Condobolin.
We were going to visit the Utes in the Paddock. The utes used to be in an actual paddock, but were moved to this site close to town a few years ago. We have visited before. However, since then a new Visitor Information Centre has been built. Now that it has been completed, there are new paths and a large parking area for trucks with toilets and showers. It is all really well presented. Let’s have a look.
After our look around it was time for a delicious morning tea at the cafe in the information centre. It was quite a popular spot.
Then it was time to get going, on our way to Lake Cargelligo. There was a lot of tumble weed on the road in some places.
Lots of crops. Many already harvested, but some still waiting for the right weather. The paddocks were huge.
We had reached our destination and set up camp by lunch time. We were able to get nice level spots, right next to the lake, We have free camped here a couple of times before.
Not long after we arrived a vehicle towing a horse float arrived and a young lady took her pony for a swim. The pony really seemed to enjoy it, as the weather was really hot.
We were really thankful that we were camped beside the water and that the wind was blowing towards us, creating a “sea breeze”, which kept the temperature pleasant enough…… until we went up town, away from the water. It actually reached 37.5 degrees C. The overnight temperature only got down to 27 degrees C. After our hot walk, we just had a lazy afternoon at our vans.
There was a beautiful moon over the lake that evening.
There were big storms forecast for the next day and the wind really picked up. You wouldn’t want to be out on the water, as the surf was definitely up. We just hunkered down in our vans for the morning. A good chance to read a book. The rather wild storm hit just after lunch, turning the wind completely around and by mid afternoon it was calm and the temperature had dropped considerably.
Time to go and do a bit of exploring.
First, we had to see the painted water tower.
Then we had a bit of a wander around the old railway precinct. This was always the end of the line.
We then returned to our camp for some more lazy time. Mick tried to catch a fish. Despite us having seen oodles of carp right next to the shoreline on the previous day he didn’t even get a nibble. He wasn’t worried.
Meanwhile, I worked on my hexies.
The pelicans were having a much nicer time of it than earlier in the day.
We ended up with clear skies and a beautiful sunset.
