I've loved seeing all the pineapple blocks popping up in blogland and on Pinterest, so was happy to find an excuse to make something using the design.
We have some friends with which we have a running joke about pineapples, so I made a runner to send to them.
A bit of fun, and nice and summery.
It was an easy make. I was inspired by this table runner, but used a different pineapple design, which I preferred. I used this tutorial for the pineapple. I then just added a piece of white fabric in the centre to make the runner nearly as long as the width of the backing fabric. Add a two inch border all around, some simple straight(ish) line quilting and you're done.
I'm quite pleased with how it turned out.
By the way, how do you mark your lines for straight line quilting? I've previously used a Hera Marker, which I initially did this time in the centre section to mark between seam lines of the two blocks for stitch in the ditch. However, for the rest of the runner, and for the last couple of things I have quilted with straight lines, I've finally used the very low tech, but effective tool that comes with just about every sewing machine - the quilting guide. These even came on old treadle machines.
Why have I not thought of it before? You never seem to see it mentioned in quilting tutorials. It works really well. I'll certainly be using it again in the future.
The best thing is that all the materials were from stash and I have a finish for One Project a Month (OPAM) that the lovely Kris is running. Happy dance. The second good thing is that this month's Rainbow Scrap Challenge colour is yellow.

A very sunny Pineapple Table runner.... great way to complete two tasks this month.
Yes the quilting guide is a good way to sew your straight lines.......
So Cute! You've been busy!
That's cool. I'm sure your friend will love it.
Nice and cheery pineapple runner, it's sure to be a hit with your friends. I also have a guide with my machine, but so far have never used it. Perhaps I should as well!

Great pineapple runner! Thanks for the tip about the quilting guide.
Awesome table runner!! My only suggestion when using that guide, keep checking to make sure the screw in holding tight! Mine tends to slip and suddenly, I'm no longer stitching the same distance away from the previous line.
Love it - very bright & cheery - yes those quilting guides are handy - though I like my hera marker too.
I love your pineapple runner....Very tropical and fresh xx
I love the pineapple block but haven't had the time to make it! Yellow challenge is a great month to get it done!

I ma so far behind with my blog reading sorry. Love this one! We have a similar thing because Bernie will not put pineapple in his pizza oven. So he says but he usually relents for the pineapple lovers. Ha ha He has been given a couple of pineapple things as well.
