Winter Warming Food

Following my recent post showing our nice lunch of soup and cheese bun I have had a couple of requests for the recipe for the bun.  It is very simple and quick, perfect for popping in the oven while your soup cooks. It is pretty much a damper.

CHEESE BUNS
Ingredients
1 cup SR flour
1 cup grated cheddar cheese
1 egg, beaten
1 tablespoon dry mustard
Pinch of chilli or cayenne pepper
1/2 cup milk

Method
1.    Line a baking tray with baking paper or grease.
2.    Preheat your oven to 200 degrees C.
3.    Mix all dry ingredients together.
4.    Add egg and just enough milk to make a soft dough, using a knife to mix.
5.    Divide into 6 buns on the baking tray, or alternatively, create one large bun. If making one large bun, score into six segments on the top to make it easy to break into sections.
6.    Bake for 30 minutes or until the top is golden and the buns sound hollow when tapped. It will take longer if making one large bun.

Delicious served with a nice hot bowl of soup.

Let me know if you try it.

We are continuing to have some very wintry weather, which is expected to continue for another week, at least.

The one upside, is that we have had a couple of stunning sunrises.  I have to go across the road to see the sunrise, now that the days are so short.
I must look a sight, dashing out the front door in my jarmies, then across the road to take a photo, before dashing back inside to the warm house. Thank goodness it is rather quiet at that time of morning.

  4. Beautiful pictures.
I have a recipe just the same as this one, it's a great pie topping instead of pastry.
