I have set myself several stitching goals for the month, but in addition have made a couple of other items, on the spur of the moment.
Mick has a shoulder that is giving him grief and he has been using our heat wheat pillow for relief. Our old version was made from corduroy, rather long and had no segmenting, so the wheat would fall to the ends and therefore not be very effective. It then sprung a leak.
Mick requested that I fix the hole and try to sew some seams to create segments. No worries! Well, you try getting the wheat away from where you are wanting to stitch and also get the top and bottom to line up for sewing along the furrows of corduroy. Not good.........then the needle hit a grain of wheat.......and of course broke........and when I snipped the thread to remove it.......the needle went into the pillow. BLAST!
Next step was to empty the wheat out of the bag and run my magnetic pin tray over it to find the broken needle tip. It worked like a charm.
It is always good to have a nice, snuggly fabric next to the skin. I had just retired some flanny jarmies, so cut off the sleeves and recycled the fabric.
Ta da! Mick just has to put up with the flowery fabric.
It has received the seal of approval. Phew!
As we have had some cooler mornings, porridge has entered the breakfast menu.
I made a bowl cozy for myself last year and now have finally got around to making another one for Mick.
Not my favourite thing to make, with all the thicknesses, but a very handy little item. I used the tutorial kindly shared by Cheryll here. It is listed in her sidebar under "Crafty Items".
Of course, this used fabric from stash and scraps of cotton batting.
Now it is time to get back to the planned stitching.

ReplyDeleteSew good to recycle and make the great sectioned wheat pack for Mick and his own bowl cosy...
ReplyDeleteI love my bowl cosy and eat porridge all year round....
Great way to re use the not so tired parts of your old PJs.
ReplyDeleteI made some of the bowl cosies a while ago. We use them often. I even have one at work which I use when I take my lunch to my desk.
Has Joey discovered hot wheat bags yet?
Well done with the recycling, I am sure Mick can cope with the flower, he looks dry relaxed there. I hope his shoulder is much better soon. Porridge bowl looks great.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Mick appreciated it, flowers and all when your in that much pain.
