When we visit the Isle of Man we stay in a little self contained cottage in Castletown, down the south of the island. By the time we head home this time we will have spent 2 months in this cottage, so it is a home away from home.
“Ard Mor” is an 18th Century cottage, although you certainly can’t tell. It is on a quiet little street and is the farthest one of this row (behind Mick). Yes, Mick is standing in the middle of a two way road.
You just don’t want to meet a lorry coming the other way.
Let’s go inside.
Firstly, straight ahead is the stairs. We’ll go up there later.
We’ll turn right into the living room.
Mick can often be found here, we are on holidays after all. Notice the computer on the window sill. This is the only place we can get wi-fi, as the router is in the adjoining cottage and the signal doesn’t like going through two foot thick stone walls. I love the deep windowsills in the buildings over here.
Now, out into the kitchen and dining room. It is really well appointed, which makes life easy. The fridge and dishwasher are hidden behind cupboard door fronts. In typical British style, the washer/dryer is in the kitchen. No separate laundry.
I have fun putting fresh flowers in the cottage, something I never do at home.
If we just pop our head out the back door and look to the right we can see the flag on the top of the castle. Most important for telling what the weather is doing before making a decision on whether or not to go out on the boat fishing.
Back up stairs next. Straight ahead we have a little bathroom.
Then there is the main bedroom. All nice and fresh.
There is also a second, single bedroom upstairs, but we are just using that for storing our suitcases.
So, there you go, our lovely little home away from home .
