Ulysses Rally – Playing the Tourist

You can’t travel all the way to Maryborough for the Ulysses AGM without playing the tourist.  As with all the Ulysses AGMs we hang out with our friends Garry and Linda.  We had a nice morning wandering around Maryborough.

The things you see.

Mary Poppins’ author was a local girl and there is a nice tribute to her on a street corner.  Mick had a little cuddle.

Maryborough used to be the second largest port in Queensland, being the entry point for many immigrants in the past, including my maternal grandmother and her parents and sister.  The Mary River was in the news recently with major flooding inundating the city.  Although it was only earlier this year, as a tourist you wouldn’t have even known.  They have recovered remarkably well.

There is a lovely park along the river.  Complete with a cane toad. Yuck!!  Fortunately, it was the only one I saw.

The Sausage Tree was a bit of a novelty.

What wonderful stories the old Morton Bay figs could tell.

The town will be safe with this crew defending the river.  All else must have failed, as they are reading the instructions.

Maryborough is renowned for its beautiful old Queenslander homes. We saw some lovely examples.

We then headed out Hervey Bay for fish and chips by the beach.

It was a lovely day looking around.

We planned to go to Gympie for a look around on the following day, but after one day of playing the tourist we were just too worn out and had a rest day instead.  Aaah!  The joys of being on holidays.
