We had a busy day on Saturday. Firstly, we visited markets at Lymington. They line the length of the High Street.
Mostly it was your usual market tack, but there was a few nice food and plant stalls. There was also a craft market (pretty weak) and an antique fair. The two things I would have liked to bring home were on a jumble sale in front of the church – a green glass water jug for next to nothing and a lovely china bowl, also very cheap. Unfortunately, no room for either.
We are now getting into the area with lots of thatched cottages. They are just gorgeous. We’ve even seen a couple in the process of having the thatch replaced.
Next stop was Beaulieu for the Spring Autojumble. This is one of the biggest in the country and was very well organised. No blokes just turning up with a ute full of stuff out of the shed (although I think there is a bit of that on the Sunday). There was so much to see. We don’t think there would be too many bargains to be had. Lots and lots of stalls with model cars.
Mick looked at loads of speedos, but no BMW stuff to be seen anywhere. He did buy a model sidecar. That was small enough to get home.
After Beaulieu we headed over to Sammy Miller’s Motorcycle Museum. There are hundreds of beautifully restored and presented old and rare bikes.
Sammy won over 1000 trophies in his career of motorcycle racing and they are all on display in big cabinets.
We then took the scenic route back to Lyndhurst through the New Forest. There are lots of ponies roaming free.
They are very quiet and just wait for you to drive around them.
On Sunday we headed south west. The coastal scenery is lovely.
We came across a car boot sale, so had to stop and have a look. Nothing of any interest.
We had fish and chips for lunch at West Bay. The beach is stunning under the big cliff. It turned out that West Bay is the main place for motorcyclists to go to on their Sunday rides and there were loads of biked in the car park.
Our destination for the day was Lyme Regis, another faded seaside resort. It is quite small and has a lovely feel about it. There is a nice sandy area for the kids to play.
The rest of the “beach” is quite large stones.
Yesterday we headed towards the west again and when following the directions from the GPS ended up down this lane. Of course, we had to meet a couple of cars along the way and a bit of backing up was required.
Totnes is another lovely town to visit. Beautiful shops, but we were strong and only bought morning tea.
And finally over the bridge into Cornwall.
Fabulous pictures. My favourite is the New Forest pony, how fabulous to see them roaming free.
